Hon. Monte Solberg was the Member of Parliament representing Medicine Hat, Alberta for 15 years, during which time he played a prominent role as the Reform, Alliance, and Conservative Party Critic for several key departments including Foreign Affairs and Finance.
When Stephen Harpers Conservatives came to office in January 2006, Solberg was appointed Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. The following year, he was appointed Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. He also served on key Cabinet committees such as Operations, Economic Growth and Long-Term Prosperity, and Foreign Affairs and National Security.
Solberg retired from political life in October 2008. Today he is an Advisor to Fleishman-Hillard Canada and RCI Capital. He also writes a weekly column for Sun Media and is a regular commentator on Sun News Network.
