Since its founding in 1974, the Institute has remained steadfast in its mission to provide non-partisan, independent, empirical analysis of the most pressing issues facing the country in ways that are accessible and easily understood by the general public.
For 50 years, the Institute has been focused on creating a better Canada and by empowering Canadians to make better self-determining decisions. The Institute’s timely and impactful research, which is subjected to an extensive peer review process, is carried out by Institute staff and associated scholars, academics, economists, and policy analysts from around the world. The Institute’s list of researchers has grown to include more than 350 authors (including six Nobel laureates) from 22 countries.
Independence is a core value of the Fraser Institute, and to protect it, the Institute does not accept grants from governments or contracts for research. Neither donors nor board members are involved in determining the Institute’s research agenda, and the Fraser Institute has repeatedly been recognized as one of the most influential—and independent—think tanks globally.
On June 5, 2024, the Fraser Institute celebrated its 50th anniversary with a gala at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary. The event celebrated the Institute’s 50 years of influence, and brought together our closest friends and supporters from across the country to say thank you.
Our celebratory evening included a keynote address by Premier Danielle Smith and a conversation with The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, 22nd Prime Minister of Canada, on confronting the challenges facing Canada at a time of geopolitical change.
