John Hunter
John has worked in the energy industry for some 30 years, living and working in Canada, Venezuela and Mexico, and with assignments in Indonesia, China, the USA, and the Philippines. Before forming his own company, he held senior executive appointments with Union Gas Ltd. and Westcoast Energy Inc., and management appointments with Dome Petroleum Ltd. and Imperial Oil Ltd.
John's background includes projects such as refinery operations and business development, Alberta oil sands projects, Venezuelan heavy oil upgraders, and the Campeche Offshore Platform and the Cantarell Nitrogen Projects in Mexico. He led Canada's first successful thermal power plant projects in both China and Indonesia. Over the last 10 years he has led and worked on several billion dollars worth of successful Private Public Partnerships, and has served on the boards of a number of international joint venture companies. His views are therefore based not on theory, but on real world operations and project development.
John's background includes a B. Sc. and M. Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Queen's University at Kingston, Canada. He is the author of numerous papers on the natural gas business, international gas and power infrastructure, Private Public Partnerships, and municipal government issues. For the last two years he has studied and spoken on the issue of developing an offshore oil and gas industry, in an unpaid private campaign.
