Peter Menzies has wide-ranging experience in the field of print journalism. Over the course of a newspaper career spanning three decades, he notably served as Publisher, Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Page Editor at the Calgary Herald. He previously worked as sports editor for the Calgary Sun and prior to that launched his career in 1979 at weekly newspapers on Vancouver Island. A graduate in political science from Acadia University in Nova Scotia and of the journalism co-op program at the University of Victoria, Mr. Menzies worked for brief periods at both the Alberta Legislature Press Galley and the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Ottawa. He received a National Newspaper Award for his role in coordinating a special series on the national referendum on the Charlottetown Accord and his work as an essayist was twice honored by the Association of Opinion Page Editors. His primary field of work today is as a part time commissioner with the CRTC and as a Senior Fellow with the Work Research Foundation. In addition, he coordinates journalism training programs conducted by the Fraser Institute and the Manning Centre for Building Democracy. He is a director of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the Calgary Opera Association, the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts and Alberta High Speed Rail.
